Anemia Panel Testing
When your body does not have enough hemoglobin (healthy red blood cells that carry oxygen throughout the body), it is deprived of oxygen, and the person develops anemia. Anemia affects over 3 million Americans and is the most common blood condition in the U.S. Many over-the-counter vitamin supplements for women are loaded with iron to help prevent the condition. Women, young children, elderly people and people with chronic disease are at the greatest risk for anemia. The CDC has estimated that as many as 1 in 10 pre-menopausal women are anemic. For this reason, anemia testing for women in their childbearing years is recommended at least every 5 to 10 years.
Anemia could be caused by a variety of things. Symptoms also vary but often include fatigue, shortness of breath, rapid heart rate and exercise intolerance.
